If custom home building is not within your budget you could consider remodeling an old home instead. Be sure to look into this very carefully as their are many problems encountered when undertaking a remodel. There can be any number of hidden surprises once the work begins.

Replacing existing finishes and fixtures is never a case of removing the old and installing the new. Floors are not level or smooth, walls are not plumb, corners are not square. There are numerous surprises hidden underneath the finished areas that will add to the cost of the job.
The structures you are working with may have rotted wood, misssing sections of trim or subfloor hidden by carpets and fixtures,mildew could be present in walls or insulation. None of these things will be found until the job begins.
Try to take all potential problems into consideration when weighing the cost of building new or remodeling. Most of the information needed for building will also be needed for a remodel. The difference that with a new build there are no surprises (translate $$$$) hidden under the old paint and paper.
